We Believe in Curiosity, Creativity & Possibility

At MOrtner Labs, we’re building a community where learning, innovation, and discovery thrive. What began as youth-focused STEAM programming has grown into a broader mission: empowering students, supporting families, and advancing research at the frontiers of science and technology.

Through hands-on programs like Code Club, AI Innovators Summer Camp, and community workshops, we help young people build confidence, technical skills, and a lifelong love of learning. At the same time, our Research Division explores emerging ideas in physics, quantum concepts, and scientific reasoningβ€”bridging education, independent inquiry, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

MOrtner Labs is a home for explorers of all ages. Whether you’re a student, mentor, researcher, or community supporter, you’re part of the spark that drives innovation forward.

Want to Get Involved?

We have a variety of programming, volunteering, and fundraising opportunities available.

Programs

Nurturing STEAM exploration for all

MOrtner Labs creates welcoming, hands-on learning experiences that help students build confidence, creativity, and real technical skills. Our programs focus on digital literacy, coding, AI exploration, and community-driven innovation β€” giving young people the tools to discover what’s possible.

We value inclusivity, innovation, integrity, and leadership, and we’re committed to expanding access to high-quality STEAM education in our community.

Coding Club

Bi-weekly coding sessions where youth explore programming in a fun, collaborative environment.

AI Innovators Summer Camp

A week-long immersive program introducing students to AI fundamentals, the current landscape of emerging technologies, and hands-on model training experiences.

Community Programs

Rotating workshops, pop-up events, and special programs focused on coding, technology, engineering, art, mathematics, and creative problem-solving.

Director of Theoretical Research & Chief Technology Officer Matthew Ortner
Matt profile image with name

Matthew leads MOrtner Labs’ emerging research programs focused on exploring new conceptual frameworks in physics and scientific inquiry. His work examines how human reasoning and advanced AI tools together might illuminate structures underlying quantum theory and other frontier scientific domains.

Since 2022, Matthew has pursued independent theoretical research while also leading the organization’s technology and educational programs. His interests lie in moments where intuition, computation, and foundational questions intersectβ€”and how new forms of reasoning might help rethink the language we use to describe the physical world.

Matthew’s role connects MOrtner Labs’ community-centered history with its expanding work in fundamental science. He collaborates closely with the Council for Advanced & Frontier Science (CAFS) to ensure that new ideas are developed responsibly, rigorously, and in conversation with the broader scientific community.

Council for Advanced & Frontier Science (CAFS)
Exploring the Ideas That Shape Tomorrow
The Council for Advanced and Frontier Science (CAFS) is an interdisciplinary advisory group supporting MOrtner Labs’ expanding work in fundamental scientific research. Members include researchers and innovators across foundational physics, quantum information, complexity science, and related fields.
Purpose:
CAFS helps ensure that MOrtner Labs’ research efforts remain rigorous, forward-thinking, and connected to the broader scientific community.

Build Requirements (Design + Technical)

  • Create as a standalone top-level page under the new Research navigation tab.
  • Keep the layout consistent with updated MOrtner Labs branding, but allow the design team flexibility in structure and visual treatment.
  • Include:
    • A simple hero section (title + short intro)
    • Three content sections: Director Bio, CAFS, QRI
    • CTA button for CAFS interest inquiry
  • Ensure responsive behavior across mobile and desktop.
  • Add placeholder images where appropriate
